About Me
- Doggone Arthur
- I'm Arthur, a Golden Retriever. I was rescued from the streets of Taiwan through the efforts of Golden Retriever Rescue and many kind volunteers in Taiwan. I understand Mandarin and English but cannot speak either. I have the innate ability to smell anything 'round' and I consider myself a real foodie as I'm willing to try just about anything edible. I was adopted by my human in 2009, my human ROCKS; together, we are on a special mission in rounding me into a stellar 'urban dog'! This blog is dedicated to my journey in urban development and the humans who make it possible.

PAW PROPS to Arthur's pals at Petropolis!

Dr Gil |
Petropolis
Arthur and I are known to take an occasional "exit stage left" and head toward our other favorite dog park do-west. It's a departure from the new (sometimes) crowded dog park on the East side. We OF COURSE always make a a special pit-stop to see our friends at Petropolis, the greatest pet supplier in the area. Arthur literally leads me to the door each time. We're always greeted like family. Arthur takes in a lap of cool refreshing water and more often than nott, we leave with a new ball!
The staff and owner, ("Taz") have always offered me knowledgeable advice on diet, pet care, and vets in the area. They consistently provide first-class assistance! It's that real New York neighborhood feel you expect in the city, and downtown! They've also introduced me to Arthur's new vet DR DiPolo in Tribeca and of course, DR Gil, who can be found regularly on the premises seeing animals, free of charge, for brief consults and basic exams. For this and so much more, (we) thank you. Paw Props to Petropolis!

The Luckiest Dogs Are Downtown!
With the recent opening of the East River Dog Park at Pier 11, dogs all over lower Manhattan are licking their lucky-paws! The long awaited and highly anticipated opening of the new dog park has become Arthur's favorite hangout. It's filled with unique and quirky elements beyond the common concrete and link chain fencing. Landscape Architect Ken Smith, has created a one of a kind dog run right here in our neighborhood of FiDi in New York City. A canine Mecca sits right under the FDR sporting a multitude of doggie desires like: a giant concrete bone, an 'Oz-like' towering tree, an over sized grey squirrel, and a sand pit. Agility objects such bridges and run through dog houses. The real crowd-pleaser, (especially rewarding these hot summer days) a manually operated 3-fountain splash pool!
The park gets much attention but only dogs with their dog-owners are allowed inside. I noticed more than the normal amount of people (many tourists) who stop to observe the dogs and take pictures. The other day, I overheard one woman telling her young daughter, "These are city dogs honey, they don't have lawns they have dog parks," her daughter then replied, "oh, they're lucky dogs." I have to agree, ‘we’ are.

A little help from our friends
Arthur's best pal Bear recovered not 100 but 110 percent from his recent ALC surgery and is currently traveling with his human in Canada! Shortly after the ACL ordeal, Bear was forced to wear the emasculating "cone of shame".
Arthur visited Bear as often as he could and Bear was thrilled to have Arthur around! Positive reinforcement, a known healing property, not to mention a little help from our friends can aid in almost any bad experience.
Below is the result we returned to after leaving Arthur and Bear alone.
You see, to Arthur it's relative:
