About Me

My photo
I'm Arthur, a Golden Retriever. I was rescued from the streets of Taiwan through the efforts of Golden Retriever Rescue and many kind volunteers in Taiwan. I understand Mandarin and English but cannot speak either. I have the innate ability to smell anything 'round' and I consider myself a real foodie as I'm willing to try just about anything edible. I was adopted by my human in 2009, my human ROCKS; together, we are on a special mission in rounding me into a stellar 'urban dog'! This blog is dedicated to my journey in urban development and the humans who make it possible.

Dog Day Afternoon

There's a magical place called 'Eataly' in the Flatiron district. It's a full city block of big Italian love. Inside, they sell anything Italian: pasta, meats, olive oils, wines, cookbooks, herbs and spices, it goes on and on. After cruising through the joint multiple times, (sometimes just to close our eyes and smell) we finally sat down for some culinary nourishment before hitting Home Depot. Truly, my most satisfying meal since...well since eating in the Italy! Molto bene!

Lasagna: Spinach and Ricotta filled, tossed in a perfect butter and lemon sauce and yes, (tear in my eye) topped with roasted pistachios.

QUADRATI RICOTTA E SPINACI
HOUSEMADE PASTA WITH LOCAL RICOTTA, SPINACH,
LEMON BUTTER, AND PISTACHIO with SALUMI MISTI

Then off to some errands at the coolest looking Home Depot ever and afterwords, grabbing a cab with an extra long wheel base that could accommodate a 108" inch curtain-rod!

One big store no big parking lot!

And Arthur? Well he stayed home and read the NY Times book reviews....

Let the human's eat and shlep through NYC, I choose to feed my mind.

Dirty Rat! Arthur takes the wrong bait!

But it didn't smell like bait. What's 'bait'?

It's been snowing and very cold during the last week.  When I took Arthur out for a walk last night, I felt obliged to let him off his leash to run freely, in an open downtown plaza nearby.  After 7:00PM the Financial District turns into a ghost town so conditions are perfect for bending the law.  He wandered around a tree, sniffing the plants popping through the snow.  I looked over and noticed he was now chewing something, and I was shocked to see his tongue was a bright shade of blue!  I had my arm down his throat immediately to rake the blue-goo from his mouth!  I extracted one of the blue chunks from his slobbery mouth, dropped it in my pocket and ran him back home.  After frantically searching online my-dog-just-ate resources, I determined it was RAT POISON… awesome.
As per Web Vet, I needed to induce vomiting to eliminate the stomach of anything he may have ingested.  So there we were in the kitchen, me pouring hydrogen peroxide down my poor unsuspecting, but so accommodating, Arthur's throat.  I stroked his back while I watched him lose his dinner, not to mention his dignity.  It took a while but he managed to settle down in the kitchen, looking wrecked and confused.
PAW PROPS TO:
Duane Reade, 20 Water Street for being open 24 hours!
Rang me up fast and assured me “Arthur will probably be fine,” AND they allow dogs in the store!

Snow doubt about it!

Why leave the apartment when it's 15 degrees outside? Yesterday in New York, it was one of those bitter cold (Sundays) when you leave your  pajamas on all day, hunker down, order in, and zone out! BUT if you live with an 85lb Golden Retriever, you're going outside!

So, we were off to Battery Park! I put on street clothes, weather-proof boots, Arthur by my side, stealthy in his black "City-Slicker"  ready to take in his first real New York City snowfall. I couldn't wait to see his reaction to a real-life "Winter Wonderland".
